In researching what Walter Fanta calls the "Entstehungsgeschichte" (history of origin) of Musil's The Man Without Qualities, I returned to some of the early attempts to write the novel that eventually morphed into The MWQ, including a novel project he called The Spy, written around 1919-1920. Here is a tranlation of these drafts on Greg Gerke's recent issue of Socrates on the Beach: https://socratesonthebeach.com/robert-musil2
I have also been working on some translations of Musil's poems, which will appear soon in Paraphrase Journal. Stay tuned.
